Here’s my response:

A car is like a human being, sometimes it’s healthy to release a little extra fumes

I have never ever seen the use for automatic start-stop, unless you live in LA, (at which point you should really either have a motorcycle or a prius) it seems like it would wear out the starter really fast and not really save you all that much fuel because at idle your car doesn’t put out a ton of fumes, plus all the charge-discharge cycles will wear out your battery faster, and the time that it is actually stopped for the average commute would probably be all of like 2 minutes at most.

Incorrect. Most engine wear occurs at cold start. The ASS doesn’t kick in until after the engine is warmed. There is minimal wear using the ASS.

I’m calling BS. Cars with start-stop systems have specially designed parts made for the purpose of the start-stop system. It's not the same as shutting down a normal car then starting it up again. I’ve not heard of cars with start-stop systems needing parts any sooner than any other car.

The article was from MSN, which isn’t exactly anywhere near credible as far as cars go.

Haha, just a step up from those “2043 Ford Gran Torino concept coming this fall” websites.

They use different batteries and starters, both designed for the purpose.

Are you saying nobody drives in stop-start traffic except those in LA?

No, I was merely giving the example of LA. I live in a (relatively) small town of about 25k people, so I don’t deal with stop-start traffic all that much.
